Signum Temporis - Tomasz Westrych in Lipowa 3 Gallery
The forms of the sculptures created by Tomasz Westrych are simple, monumental, ‘coarsely hewn,’ as if they were made of stone. You can trace in them the same feature which is found in the art of primitive people, in the art of black Africa or the Pacific Islands. It is the same feature that was intentionally exposed by the artists of the twentieth-century avant-garde, trying to get to the primeval element.
In the works of Tomasz Westrych this primordial nature and naturalness are also stressed by the use of materials – terracotta and paper. The Artist tries to use them to show emotions which man has experienced for centuries. All the fears, anxieties, doubts – because they are what is meant here – are accumulated in the head. Thus a series of Erratics, terracotta sculptures, has been created, which is the backbone of the Signum Temporis exhibition in Lipowa 3 Gallery.
You are cordially invited to visit this unique presentation of the works by the Krakow Artist.
